Wellness vs. Medical Care

What’s the main difference between wellness care and standard medical care? Wellness care seeks to turn on the body’s natural healing ability — not by adding something to the system, but by removing anything that might interfere with normal function, trusting that the body would know what to do if nothing were interfering with it. At Lyn Lake Chiropractic, we understand that a muscle spasm, disc injury, edema from trauma, or even a sprain/strain muscle injury could cause a pinched nerve. Our Minneapolis chiropractic clinic takes the scientific approach: what caused it, how do we help heal you, and how can we stop the problem from causing your symptoms again?

The doctors at Lyn Lake Chiropractic take a step-back approach, and with the help of our digital x-ray machine, a thorough exam, and assessment, we try to find the cause of the problem. That cause can be a disc injury, muscle spasm, pulled muscle, and much more — all of which could cause shooting pain down your arms or legs.

Standard medical care, on the other hand, seeks to treat a symptom by adding something from the outside — a medication, a surgery, or a procedure. We feel there is a place for all doctors to help with your symptoms or pain. Lyn Lake Chiropractic has excellent respect and working relationships with Medical Doctors, Orthopedists, Neurologists, Radiologists, Physical Therapists, Acupuncturists, and many more physicians.

Dr. Kevin Schreifels and Dr. Jill Field will have no problem sending your x-rays to be reviewed by a Radiologist to help determine the cause of your symptoms. We would rather work closely with your primary doctor if needed, to keep everyone on the same page in your healing process. Lyn Lake Chiropractic doesn’t see it as chiropractic care vs. medical care — everyone involved in the healing process can only help you. If you become one of our patients and would like us to speak with your Medical Doctor, please let us know.

Inside Out vs. Outside In

If a patient has high blood pressure, a standard medical approach would be to choose a drug that lowers blood pressure and ask the patient to take it. This may lower the blood pressure, but it ignores the underlying cause that is making the blood pressure high, and runs the risk of side effects complicating the person’s recovery. Whether it’s a nutritional issue, faulty control by the nervous system, or a manifestation of stress, medication alone leaves the underlying cause of the symptom unaddressed. Please understand: we want you to continue your care with your primary doctor, and if they suggest medication, please continue — but consider adding muscle work, rehab, and chiropractic adjustments alongside it.

The Wellness Approach

Wellness is a state of optimal conditions for normal function — and then some. The wellness approach looks for underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption (which may or may not be causing symptoms at the time) and makes whatever interventions and lifestyle adjustments would optimize the conditions for normal function. That environment encourages natural healing and minimizes the need for invasive treatment, which should be administered only when absolutely necessary.

When the body is working properly, it tends to heal effectively no matter what the condition. When the body heals well and maintains itself well, there’s another level of health beyond “asymptomatic” or “pain-free” — an open-ended opportunity for vitality, vibrant health, and an enhanced experience of life. This is true for mental and emotional health as well as physical health. This clinic builds relationships with patients by keeping them well, and offers same-day appointments and walk-ins when the clinic is open, along with a 24-hour answering service so you can call anytime to schedule an appointment.

FAQs

What’s the difference between wellness care and medical care?

Wellness care focuses on removing interference with the body’s natural healing ability and finding root causes, while standard medical care typically treats symptoms by adding a medication, surgery, or procedure from outside.

Does Lyn Lake Chiropractic work with medical doctors?

Yes — we have strong working relationships with Medical Doctors, Orthopedists, Neurologists, Radiologists, Physical Therapists, Acupuncturists, and other physicians, and are glad to coordinate care with your primary doctor.

Should I stop taking my prescribed medication if I start chiropractic care?
